WARNING - Caution - Internet Ads Scam

Fraudsters are scanning "for sale" columns in newspapers and the Internet to look for items for sale so that they can con the vendor into cashing cheques that have been stolen or copied. Recently numerous incidents of attempted fraud have been reported to the police nationally and a case has recently been broadcast by the X-Ray programme.. Please be vigilent. Normally sellers of high value items such as cars and computors are targeted but they have also recently contacted horse owners too. If someone responds to your advert for a horse or item you have for sale, especially if they are from abroad, and just wants to buy your horse straightaway and to know if you will accept a cheque, then be very suspicious, The cheque sent in the post to cover the cost of the item or animal is likely to be stolen or a forgery but may well be cleared by the bank initially. Some time later when it is revealed that the cheque is not genuine, payment will be stopped and the seller will not only loose their goods but the balance as well. Do not end up losing both your money and your horse!
